About
Work is created with the belief that the magical moments in life arise from uncertainty, coincidence, and collaboration. I suspect this philosophy arises from a faith that “things work out”. Sometimes life is wonderful and sometimes it is tragic – but either way there is beauty in living.
My primary interest is the interplay between surface, space, and sound. Trained as an architect, I find the most structured and organized plans often dull and lifeless. Conversely, when designing with the power of emotion rather than rules and reason, spaces open up and tell stories. I attempt to bring this energy to both the two and three-dimensional work of my art practice.
Lastly, collaboration is a source of power I draw from often. This may take the form of a work created with talented friends who I’ve known for decades or from interacting with work that was created long before I existed. The most valuable lessons I’ve learned in life is that I have little control over anything and there is no value in trying to be right all the time. Rather than a feeling of helplessness, I find these realizations freeing. When I collaborate, it reinforces the idea that I don’t need to be in absolute control – I just need to participate and enjoy the outcome.
